Swinging for the Fences
- a ministry update from Mo Leverett, May 20, 2008 -

My oldest daughter has inherited many traits from her father. Swinging for the fences is one of them. She’s playing fast pitch softball and she’s discovering some of the drawbacks to that particular character trait.

I was in Corpus Christi this past weekend and spoke and performed in numerous churches - Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian and at least one or two churches that didn’t know who they were! Not sure if I hit any home runs but I think I hit a few singles, scored a few runs and hit plenty of foul balls. And when a batter hits a foul, some lucky kid goes home with a cherished piece of memorabilia. Point being, that even when we don’t feel like we’ve done well, the Holy Spirit still works.

I met some incredible people and am confidant that God is stirring something significant between Rebirth and Corpus. I look forward to seeing what that looks like.

I’m presently in the St. Louis airport. I met Shane and Kristen Fast there, who have decided to move to the city to launch REBIRTH: East St. Louis. We spent a number of hours planning and in strategy sessions. I’m excited about this new launch. Shane is planning to get some seminary coursework in the midst of getting Rebirth in East St. Louis started. I hope you will pray for He and Kristen as they begin this exciting venture. I will bring more information to you later.

I am so looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight and getting reconnected with the coolest family I know. I’m also looking forward to getting back to work on REBIRTH: New Orleans! I do have some concerts and speaking engagements coming up in June in Tallahassee, FL and throughout Alabama. These concerts are keeping our tanks full of gas. In between these concerts we’re running on empty, but we’re thankful for the opportunities the Lord has given us to minister in New Orleans and beyond!

I also have some very important meetings toward the end of this month for which I would solicit your ardent prayer.

Until I write again, you will find me still swinging for the fences. I just can’t help it…

I’m so happy to hear that Rebirth is branching out to St. Louis! It’ll be exciting to hear about the ways God chooses to bless the city through the ministry there.

Your words from the beginning of the post, about the Holy Spirit working in someone even when you feel like you’ve hit a foul ball, are very encouraging. Last night I was very saddened by the fact that one of my friends seems to understand a lot about Christianity and yet still doesn’t accept that Christ is his only redemption. It boggles my mind that this is so.

In other news, the UConn RUF-ers and I have just come back from the RUF Summer Conference in Florida. It was a very exciting week, attending seminars, and learning about God’s word. There was a moment that ruined my life that I thought you’d like to know about. In a seminar about studying the Bible the teacher took a few moments to deviate from the topic to talk about pick-up lines! He asked the guys for some examples and then asked the ladies how it made us feel. “A piece of a woman,” and “flavor of the week,” were my favorites. The teacher went on to warn the guys against using pick-lines to get to know girls because it was dishonoring to women, and to God, as His image-bearers. Then, he told us that by not studying God’s Word in order to have a more intimate relationship with Christ, we were guilty of using pick-up lines on Christ!

In other exciting news, my boyfriend asked me to marry him while we were at the conference and I said yes. So now, I’m engaged, which is very exciting.
